Silence is golden

At Plasma Technology we make a conscious effort to support our local community whether it be through our Go Green initiative (blog coming soon) or through our fundraising efforts to support local causes.

There are so many charities close to our hearts, so each year we ask our employees to vote for the charity they would most like to support. Past supported charities have included The Wallace and Gromit Grand Appeal and the British Heart Foundation. Fundraising activities for these charities have included: charity football matches between our Yatton office and Group Head Office, raffles, bake sales, bike rides, golf days and sponsored walks.

For the past twelve months we have been raising funds for Children’s Hospice South West, who provide hospice care for children with life-limiting conditions and their whole family across the South West. A group of us from Plasma Technology went to visit the Charlton Farm site in Wraxall, UK and were overwhelmed with the facilities they have there to help these families – it was a truly emotional visit.

After our visit, we were even more determined to raise as much money as possible for the hospice, and met to plan a list of fundraising activities for the year. So far, these activities have raised over £2,500 and have included: wet sponge throwing (at the MD!) a football match, a head shave, collection tins, company quiz and a Christmas jumper day. One highlight of these activities being Colin Welch, our Principal Applications Engineer taking part (and completing!) the Iron Man challenge, which consisted of a 2.4 mile swim in a lake, a 112 mile cycle ride and a full marathon run (26.2 miles) which was an unbelievably fantastic achievement by Colin who raised over £1000.

On a similarly challenging level, I observed a sponsored silence for a whole working day and I managed to raise over £670! I’m exhausted just thinking about it.

Thank you to all our employees and their friends/family for taking the time to both raise and donate money for our charities, it demonstrates what caring and generous staff we have and we look forward to taking part in further activities for more charities in the near future.
